First things first, a little PSA. Unless you've been in a drunken festive stupor/don't celebrate it/are in Asia, Australia, or NZ where it already is the 25th, it may not have escaped your attention that it's Christmas soon. This is just a note to say...

NO POSTS WILL BE ACCEPTED TOMORROW. YOU ARE FREE TO POST SOMETHING, BUT IT IS LIKELY TO SIT IN THE MODERATION QUEUE, AND MAY NOT BE ACCEPTED UNTIL THE 26TH. WE'D LIKE A DAY OFF, AFTER ALL. :)

That out of the way, this post is dedicated to holiday spirit!

CHRIST ON A CRACKER, IT'S A HOLIDAY FREE-FOR-ALL POST! :D

Feel free to write anything at all in comments, from "Merry Christmas!" to what your resolutions are for 2010, something you did in 2009 that was amazing, to something you're looking forward to in the next year, whether real-life or fandom. Anything is welcome. See this as a giant chat/free-for-all post. A metaphorical GQMF Christmas party. Anything is fair game. Talk amongst yourself or to yourself, whatever tickles your fancy.

(This isn't meant to be a party post, per se, more a giant chat post, but I am disabling e-mail notifications, so do what you will. :D)

From all the Mods at [info]ontd_startrek, thank you for making this community a wonderful wank-free place to be, and let's take it to new heights in 2010! Merry Christmas (or whatever you celebrate or don't) to you all. May you have a wonderful day, and we hope 2010 brings you everything you desire.

Live long and prosper. ♥

THURSDAY GRAPHICS POST!

Here is the weekly post where members can link to their icons, wallpapers, macros, and other misc. graphics.

As always, we recommend you link to your journal, rather than posting all your icons in a single comment. A preview of a few icons/one of your wallpapers (preferably resized, or a thumbnail) is the way to go.

Punch it. ♥

LeVar Burton attends the 'Family Guy Something, Something, Something, Dark Side' DVD release party on December 12, 2009 in Beverly Hills, California.

Can I just say? LeVar Burton's daughter is gorgeous!

For those who don't follow wil Wheaton's Twitter or blog, do take a moment to read the hilarity that is his epic post about this DVD launch party. Highlights include Seth McFarlane serenading his guests in full rat pack regalia, an ice sculpture of Stewie as Darth Vader, and a touching close encounter with the composer of TNG's soundtrack. Attendees apparently included people like the Shamwow Guy and Paris Hilton. I'M NOT JOKING.

Short, but sweet:

In a decade filled with the return of iconic franchises, Star Trek went from Impulse Drive to Warp 9 (too easy?) with both critics and audiences with its reboot this year. When J.J. Abrams signed on to take the helm of the Star Trek franchise with a group of new faces taking on the roles of the timeless Enterprise crew, little did we know that the blockbuster film would go on to be one of the best reviewed movies of the year.

While film after film has taken us forward with the voyagers of the Starship Enterprise, Star Trek was a true origins story that wasn't geared towards Trekkies, too simple for fans of the show, or too complex for newbies. Star Trek delivered a visually stunning brand of mainstream entertainment that propelled the series back not only back into theaters, but the public consciousness. However, the movie had some stiff competition, going up against the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bond and a man in a bat suit, amongst a number of others but its broad appeal and ability to recruit a whole new generation of Star Trek fans make it the Best Reboot of the Decade.

This is based on the overall rating, which ST got a 94%. Rounding out the top 5: Casino Royale (94), The Departed (92), 3:10 to Yuma (88), Batman Begins (85)

Mods: This is actually from August 2008, but since [info]ontd_startrek wasn't around back then and Avatar was just released last weekend (With a pretty interesting story between it and STXI that perhaps some here aren't aware of) - I hope the post is still accepted! :)

Saldana Needed Some Convincing To Take On Uhura
August 25, 2008

About a year ago TrekMovie.com broke the news that Zoe Saldana had been offered the role of Uhura in the new Star Trek. At the time it wasn’t clear if she would take the role, due to her obligations shooting another Sci-Fi blockbuster, Avatar. Now in a new interview Saldana reveals that the director of that film helped talk her into taking the Trek job. The actress also talks more more about Uhura and her possible future as well as JJ Abrams’ respect for the fans.

~The more you know~ )

By the way, while skimming through the comments to the source article I was reminded of the amount of hate/doubt that the unseen STXI had received long before its eventual release - whether the complaints were targeted towards J.J./film/casting/etc./etc. Thank goodness comment #25 (It deserves a read!) showed up in that particular post to restore some sense and spur on the defenders' spirits!

Some kid named Chris Pine gets saucy at a Halloween party from... 2007/8 maybe? Shot by the people who brought you Zach Quinto/Before the Door's "Bordeaux," and discovered in the depths of their website (not by me). Now giffed for your pleasure (yes by me!).

Lol I don't even know. Newsflash: Piney continues to be ridiculous and amazing. There aren't many but he wasn't as big of a ~star~ then, I guess.

warning: some are with a ~gurl~ so prep the fainting couches )

Recently I was clearing out my wardrobe and got my hands back on some old DVDs and Tapes I very well adored back a decade ago. Oh how could I forget this wonderfull german StarTrek Comedy Series. I think its worth an article clear entitled as Retro.

DREAMSHIP SURPRISE - Our Spaceship (Tos goes Gay)

1998-2000:
Take SNL and transcribe it into something German (Bullyparade), give them TOS and alot GAYness (actual, all characters play gay) and put it on TV in short sketches (around 60 stories each 3-5minutes long).
An Epic Work was born. "Our Dream/spaceship":
Details for the Show )

But THAT is not all!!!
In 2004 they created a whole cinematic bombastic Movie!

Details for the Movie )

*the popular floating test and you will fail when you are very much fat*

Brian Fuller (a producer/writer behind awesomeness like Heroes, Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me, and many episodes of DS9 and Voyager) published his list of Five Faves from 2009. What's his favorite movie?

K/S Shippers will be especially pleased. )

Sauce and the rest of his list, including a nod to his best (imho), Pushing Daisies.
